Keene has a strong economic base including diverse industry and a variety of commercial, financial, government, retail, and non-profit businesses.
The largest employer in the City is Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth Hitchcock-Keene with an estimated 1500 employers as reported to Economic & Labor Market Information Bureau, NH Employment Security in 2008. Other employers rounding out the top ten in the City are C&S Wholesale Grocers, Keene State College, Keene School District, Smiths Industrial Medical Systems, National Grange Mutual Insurance, TimKen Super Precision, Liberty Mutual/Peerless Insurance Company, Markem Corporation, and Janos Technologies.
